WOMEN'S MENTAL HEALTH
Compassionate, Evidence-Based Care Across the Reproductive Lifespan
At Cedar Psychiatry, this work is led by Dr. Setare Eslami, Chair of Women’s Mental Health at the Central California Psychiatric Society. Reproductive psychiatry involves more than hormones or medication. It means understanding how your mental health is shaped by real biological, relational, and social change, and offering medication support aligned with your values and family-planning goals.
CONDITIONS WE TREAT
Mental Health Through Life's Hormonal Transitions
- PMDD
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder causes severe emotional and physical symptoms in the days or weeks before menstruation, far beyond typical PMS. Care may include hormone-sensitive medication, lifestyle adjustment, and careful cycle monitoring within a personalized plan.
- PMADs
Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders include depression, anxiety, OCD, and panic during pregnancy or after childbirth. Care is highly individualized and may include psychotherapy, pregnancy-safe medication, and close coordination with your OB-GYN, midwife, or doula.
- Perimenopausal Mood Disorders
In the years leading up to menopause, fluctuating hormones can intensify existing depression or anxiety, or bring on new irritability, brain fog, and emotional reactivity. We offer careful assessment and, when appropriate, medication support suited to this life stage.
- Fertility Challenges and Pregnancy Loss
Infertility treatment, miscarriage, and pregnancy loss carry an emotional weight that is often borne quietly. We offer steady, continuing psychiatric support through the grief, anxiety, and uncertainty that so often accompany this difficult and isolating process.
